Veterinary Technician

We’re looking to welcome a friendly, reliable, caring, experienced technician to round out our team at K.Vet Animal Care in Greensburg, PA.
This position requires an individual with great interpersonal and organizational skills with a hunger to learn and evolve their knowledge, abilities, and experience in the field. The ideal candidate will support the hospital’s vision and mission while working closely with practice leadership, doctors, technicians, CSRs, and clients to coordinate patient care in an exciting small animal practice. You will work under the direct guidance of the Lead Floor Technician, Lead Surgical Technician, Hospital Coordinator, Practice Manager, and Medical Director.

As a Veterinary Technician, you will . . .
  • Participate in staff meetings and provide relevant input.
  • Solve problems independently and display excellent judgment
  • Maintain positive morale and team atmosphere.
  • Obtain and record patient histories and vital statistics including weight, temperature, respiration rate, and, at times, blood pressure.
  • Collect specimens and perform routine laboratory procedures and tests in hematology, biochemistry, chemistry, microbiology, urinalysis, and serology to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of animal health problems.
  • Dispense and administer medications (including controlled substances), vaccines, serums, and treatments as prescribed by veterinarians. (May be administered orally, topically, subcutaneously, or intravenously.)
  • Administer fluids and blood products as prescribed by the veterinarian.
  • Administer and monitor anesthesia under the direction of a veterinarian.
  • Provide specialized nursing care for injured or ill patients.
  • Prepare patients, instruments, and equipment for surgery.
  • Assist in diagnostic, medical, and surgical procedures using a range of high-tech diagnostic equipment including electrocardiographic, radiographic, and ultrasonographic equipment.
  • Take and process radiographs.
  • Communicate with and educate owners in person, by telephone, or email.
  • Maintain knowledge of preventative healthcare recommendations in order to answer client questions; provide education on vaccines, flea, tick, and heartworm products; and assist in marketing veterinary services from which their pet would benefit such as a dental cleaning, senior wellness, and spay and neuter.
  • Educate clients on products and medications sold including dietary products and answer questions regarding product purchase/use.
  • Clean and maintain exam rooms, treatment area and laundry.
  • Work well with all team members and ensure that your actions support the hospital, the doctors, and the practice philosophy.
