Spike Graduates!

If any dog ever earned that graduation cap, it must surely be Spike!

Spike's journey to this point took a long time and some difficult turns.

Thank you, thank you, thank you to Spike's people for hanging in there with us.

Spike came to see us back in January.

He was having trouble with his knees (stifles).

The patellas (or knee caps) were not tracking properly.  When this happens, the dog will often not bear weight on the affected leg until the patella finds its way back home.

Spike's initial response to care for this problem was good.  He was progressing.

Then he stopped bearing weight on his left rear leg.

We worked with him.  We changed his treatment plan.

We met with frustration.

We asked Dr. Hougentogler to re-examine Spike, and we agreed that Spike had torn his cranial cruciate ligament (ACL in a person).

Off to surgery.

Dr. Hougentogler did the surgery.

Then, of course, it was back to rehab for Spike.

Well, we have finally gotten to the point where we could graduate Spike.

He has 4 good legs, and people who are clearly committed to his well being.

In total, this took about 8 months, a surgery, and about 32 rehab sessions.  I do not know how many reassessments.

But he made it.

Congratulations to Spike and his people
