Daisy has come to see me for chiropractic for some time now.
In this picture Daisy is working with her person to develop a home program to keep her as healthy and active as possible.
Recently, Daisy added a PEMF device to her routine, to aid in her recovery after more strenuous activity.
PEMF is pulsed electromagnetic field.
This is what a PEMF device looks like (It's about 4 inches across.).
The body part that we want to treat is put in the middle of the circle, and the device is held onto the surface of the body.
The device then turns on and off in very fast cycles, creating an electromagnetic field that is also switched on and off ("pulsed").
The individual (person or dog) does not feel any sensation.
PEMF has, however, shown in research that it is very effective in controlling pain and promoting healing.
I first heard about this technology in a rehab class about 2 1/2 years ago.
I was interested in it, because many rehab practices (human and animal) are using these effectively.
At that time, however, I found the devices to be too expensive to use to the greatest benefit.
Last fall, however, one of the clients at KVet introduced me to another company making reliable, effective PEMF loops.
Over the last few months, we have tried them on a few individuals, and I have found them to be very useful.
(I've been using one on my own hip, but I'm sure that you don't want to see a picture of that!).
I am always looking for the best ways to help facilitate optimal well being.
It seems that the PEMF loop is another tool that we can safely and effectively use.
If you are interested in the possible benefit in your pet's situation, let me know.
I'd be happy to explore that option with you.
