Here is Scout in the Oasis Underwater Treadmill at the K.Vet Rehabilitation Facility.
The Underwater Treadmill gives us an amazing tool to address a wide variety of issues for a large number of animals. The Oasis gives us the very best features that allow us to help your animal friend in the largest number of ways possible. This is a key service that has been absent from our area.
By filling the water to different levels, we can address a variety of issues and provide many different challenges for the animal. Water to your friend's carpus (or wrist) will help us stimulate an exaggerated movement in the walker. In the picture above, it is helping Scout more purposefully move his back legs, as he continues to recover from last fall's injury.
Butch, on the other hand, works in the treadmill with the water up to his shoulders. This allows the water to support about two thirds of Butch's body weight, so that we can really focus on getting Butch's legs to move through a normal walking pattern. This is really helping him find back end strength that he has lost.
When the water is up to the animal's elbows, however, walking in the water becomes very difficult. It's too high to reach out of, and too low to substantially support the body's weight. This works great for strengthening an athlete, building strength after an injury has stabilized, or cross training.
Additionally, we can run the treadmill forward or in reverse, change the incline of the treadmill, and create even more resistance with the underwater jets. All giving us a wide variety of options, so we can find the combination that best serves your animal companion.
